Haelan House is an Oregon 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is: &ldquo;Healing the Root Cause and Effects of Trauma, Creating Health, Resilience, and Wholeness.&rdquo;
Raising awareness of what trauma is and how it affects us is the first step in encouraging people to start and continue the process of healing by exploring available options. &nbsp;It helps to know you&rsquo;re not alone if you have suffered from traumatic events including loss, abuse, neglect, abandonment, racism, bullying, accidents, war, poverty, and disease.
Our awareness efforts are focused on three main areas:
1. &nbsp; &nbsp; Haelan House offers Education, Tools, Resources, and Support to people who have been affected by trauma. &nbsp;
<ul>
<li>The Healing Trauma Conference, held annually in May, brings together experts in the field of trauma, holistic health practitioners, local organizational resources, and other opportunities for support.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Monthly educational workshops are held to educate people about how trauma affects six main areas of our lives including physical, mental, emotional, nutritional, social, and spiritual well-being, and tools and methods for healing.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
2. &nbsp; &nbsp; We promote the importance of being trauma-informed for everyone who works with traumatized individuals including the medical community, mental and behavioral health professionals, educators, clergy, employers, emergency services personnel, social service organizations, and others.
3. &nbsp; &nbsp; We are creating a Wellness Care Fund to subsidize treatments for complementary and alternative therapies that are not covered by insurance.&nbsp;

Sunstone Recovery is an individualized treatment program. We do not use a &ldquo;one size fits all&rdquo; treatment approach. What this means is that we create a care plan specific to your needs and do not operate on a phase system. We do this in the hopes of maximizing your treatment experience.

The Bulletin is the daily newspaper of Bend, Oregon. The Bulletin is owned by EO Media Group, a family owned operation, which prior to January 2013 was named the East Oregonian Publishing Company.
The Bulletin covers Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties and remains committed to local coverage of news, sports and advertising.
It has a wealth of social media platforms available to reach a dynamic, growing audience.
Over the years, a number of well-known journalists have been associated with the newspaper.
Since its founding in 1903, The Bulletin has had a number of distinguished publishers, including George P. Putnam, Robert W. Sawyer, and Robert W. Chandler. All three of these newspapermen are honored in the Oregon Newspaper Hall of Fame. Putnam and Sawyer were inducted in 1980, shortly after the Hall of Fame was created by the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association. Chandler was inducted in 2006.
Phil Brogan was another well-known journalist associated with The Bulletin. He was hired by Sawyer in 1923, and worked as a reporter, writer, and editor for the next 44 years, earning numerous awards for his work. He was also a distinguished historian, geologist, paleontologist, geographer, meteorologist, astronomer, and outdoorsman. In 1964, Brogan wrote East of the Cascades, an important source of information on the geology, geography, and history of Central Oregon. Phil Brogan Viewpoint near Lava Butte in Newberry National Volcanic Monument is named in his honor.
Heidi Wright, COO for EO Media Group, is the publisher of The Bulletin today.
Gerry O'Brien, formerly of the Klamath Falls Herald and News and several newspapers in Montana, is the editor of The Bulletin as of September 2019.

The Bulletin

We improve health care by working to bring down costs and raise both quality and satisfaction. We want to do health care better (see our History). We create a space for the health partners in our region to work together. For us, health partners include a lot more than doctors, dentists, and hospitals. We also work with:

<li>Public transportation representatives</li>
<li>Housing groups</li>
<li>County health departments</li>
<li>Elected officials&nbsp;</li>
<li>And many more community nonprofits, advocates, and volunteers!</li>

There are things we are required by the state to do:
<ul>
<li>Oversee the Medicaid and OHP plans administered by our regional Coordinated Care Organization (CCO), PacificSource</li>
<li>Conduct a Regional Health Assessment (RHA) every five years</li>
<li>Create a five-year Regional Health Improvement Plan (RHIP)</li>
<li>We bring providers, patients, and community leaders together to solve problems.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
Our 200+ volunteers have made our mission a success. Together we are creating a stronger, healthier Central Oregon.

Welcome to The Healing Trauma Conference - Day 2

Anyone who provides care and support for vulnerable people knows that it can be extremely rewarding, emotionally taxing, or both. When we don&rsquo;t actively participate in processes that support ourselves and each other, we become vulnerable to a wide range of difficulties.&nbsp;
If we also have our own challenges with stress or unresolved trauma, these difficulties can be even more pronounced and hard to address. In this presentation, we will explore the ways personal history and life experiences can influence our own health and wellbeing, reflect on the impacts of current stress on our own responses, and learn about strategies that can support emotional regulation and general health and wellbeing.

Nia Technique is a mindful dance fitness modality that, with the right instructor, has the potential to heal trauma through embodiment, nonverbal self-expression, and self-determination. Participants are encouraged to sense their bodies, choose how they want to do the moves, and learn to listen to their body&rsquo;s voice. Regular participants receive sensory re-integration, greater ability to feel joy, and the agency needed to self-transform - while also building physical fitness.
 In this session, you will

No problem; my cueing supports chair participation as well.&nbsp; Standing participants should try to clear at least 6x8&rsquo; of floor space before the session. All moving participants should ideally wear something that lets you move freely and sweat, and be barefoot if possible.&nbsp;

Nia Technique for Trauma Healing

Although many LGBTQ+ youth thrive during adolescence through exploration of gender and sexuality, stigma and discrimination lead to trauma which puts them at increased risk of poor health outcomes.&nbsp;
Compared to their heterosexual counterparts, LGBTQ+ youth are more likely to have been bullied at school, felt sad or hopeless, been forced to have sex, seriously considered suicide, used illicit drugs, and misused prescription opioids.&nbsp;
Through this presentation, I will utilize my lived experience as a member of the LGBTQ+ communities, my knowledge of health disparities, and my role in public health as a physician to suggest a trauma-informed approach to affirming gender identity and sexual orientation.
