This we do by providing access to primary eye care for underprivileged and rural Indians and through advancing the optometry sector, awareness generation, capacity building, advocacy, and leadership development. Our Eye See &amp; I Work and Eye See &amp; I Learn campaigns reach constituencies where services are lacking and most required &ndash; notably adults and children. IVI has undertaken over 1,100 vision screening programs in states across India. Over3,70,640 individuals from the underprivileged communities (including 284,011 children) have been screened and free spectacles distributed to 64,675 individuals (including 28,000 children). Optometrists are in the frontline of vision care services delivery. IVI works to upgrade their skills and build capacity as well as equip them to cope with challenges in their careers. We organise online advocacy, talks, panel discussions, education, skill enhancement, and leadership development programs. This apart, the Fellows will be trained in medical retina, eye banking and exposed to Oculoplasty, Cornea, Glaucoma, Paediatric ophthalmology and Surgical Retina. &nbsp;The hospital has SIX fellowship positions in general ophthalmology, Medical Retina and Surgical Retina. &nbsp;
 The hospital at Pammal is accredited for DNB training by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.

The undergraduate course in Optometry at SRM MCH &amp; RC was commenced in the year 2011. Within a relatively short period of time, the department of Optometry saw an exponential increase in demand. This was due to the department's well-equipped laboratories for clinical and practical training, which were combined with theoretical classes, as well as its team of committed teaching faculty. The course curriculum for B.Optom is very competitive and is on par with the recommendations of the Common Minimum Optometry Curriculum by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The undergraduate course curriculum offers a solid foundation in a structured manner towards moulding the students into professionals.&nbsp;
Driven by the success of the undergraduate program and catering to the demand from the alumni, the M.Optom program was commenced in the year 2020. Our M.Optom program offers a transdisciplinary program curriculum inclusive of an evidence-based clinical approach, qualitative research, visual psychophysics, adaptive optics, artificial intelligence in eye care, and translation vision science. Implementation of the program plan is crafted to enhance clinical skill development in optometry specialties, along with two years of extensive training in vision research and exposure to teaching.&nbsp;
Our department also offers Ph.D. in Optometry, where full-time research scholars are given a monthly stipend as well. The fields of the research include Clinical Optometry, Binocular Vision, Contact lens, Myopia, Community Eyecare, Visual Psychophysics, and Eye-tracking.&nbsp;
Clinical case discussions are conducted every week, which is structured in such a way that students from the UG (B.Optom) first year to final year, and PG (M.Optom) students have a vertical integrated learning experience - &ldquo;an educational approach that fosters a gradual increase of learner participation in the professional community through a stepwise increase of knowledge-based engagement in practice with graduated responsibilities in patient care&rdquo;. Guest lectures and international and national seminars are conducted on regular basis to provide a multifaceted learning experience.&nbsp;

Online free courses through Coursera, Edx, and SWAYAM are also being offered to students to help them keep pace with international standards.
Considering the quality of education provided memberships have been given to the college by organizations like the Atomic Energy Regulatory board of government of India (AERB), the Association of schools and colleges of Optometry, and the Indian Society of Radiographers and Technologists. MoUs with almost 40 National and International organizations have been done for the benefit of students to get better external exposure in their chosen field.30 plus awards by various national and international conclaves have been conferred to the institute based on their academic performance, infrastructure, and placement records.
Value Added Courses, Skill development program, Institutional Innovation Council, Institutional Social responsibility council, sports, and cultural clubs have been instituted to bring about a holistic development of students in the curricular,co-curricular, and extra-curricular forums. Students are taken to Industrial visits to help them understand the industry needs and prepare them for employability.
We are also the first educational institution to receive Workplace assessment for Safety and Hygiene certification from the Quality Council of India and also the ISO 14001:2015 Certification for Environmental Management system . Recently our institution has received the FIT INDIA certification also from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
