Dr. Suyemoto will provide a keynote on her long time commitment to racial justice as a scholar in Psychology&nbsp; and community engaged activist. She will speak to culturally responsive mental and behavioral health care services and her experience as Co-chair of APA&rsquo;s Task Force on Race and Ethnicity committee.

Keynote: Dr. Karen Suyemoto, Professor of Psychology at University of Massachusetts Boston

Dr. Suyemoto will discuss foundational racial and mental health justice concepts to set the stage for the conference. She will share her insight on racial justice, macro and micro level change, and strategies for providing culturally responsive health services.
Dr. Thao will share her findings from research she is leading on trauma within the Hmong community. She will discuss the importance of teaching critical Hmong studies in racial justice curricula and strategies for providing culturally responsive health practices.

Transforming Existing Structures Through Education and Training (Moderator: Maysee Herr, PhD)

Blanca will discuss contributing factors and reasons clinicians of color experience burn out in the field. &nbsp;We will pay particular attention to the last five years and how the political climate has contributed to further burn out and vicarious trauma. &nbsp;This workshop will provide all clinicians tools to determine burnout and tools to assist the prevention and/or assistance of burnout amongst clinicians of color. &nbsp;This workshop will encourage open/honest dialogue, provide a safe space for questions/discussion, reflection/burnout questionnaire work, and/or small group work. &nbsp;

Session 1: *UPDATE* Burn Out in Clinicians of Color (Blanca de Leon, MSW, LCSW)

Myra will present on the model she has developed for addressing historical trauma within Black/African American communities. Being "trauma-informed" is the new buzz word but how can one be trauma informed in a racialized world? And how can we talk about being trauma informed without understanding racial trauma? At this presentation you will understand and learn how to apply trauma informed interventions through an equity lens. This teaches you not only how to be a trauma informed clinician but a social justice clinician.&nbsp;

Session 2: Understanding and Addressing Historical Trauma in Black/African American Communities (Myra McNair, LMFT)

This interactive workshop is designed to support community mental health workers in their efforts to provide high quality services in culturally responsive and inclusive ways. The speaker and participants will share their experiences of stigma, biases, and microaggressions in the mental health field and discuss micro and macro levels of change that promote culturally inclusive health care practices. National Culturally Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards and processes will also be introduced. Lastly, we will explore various ways of connecting with and empowering community members during the COVID-19 pandemic. &nbsp;

Building a Diverse and Inclusive Mental Health Workforce Panel (Moderator: Sheng Lee Yang, MSW, LCSW)

This panel includes students (preservice clinicians) in the mental and behavioral health pipeline. These panelists will share their experience in navigating a field in which there is an underrepresentation of people of color amongst mentors, faculty, and professionals. The goal of this panel is to learn from the knowledge they brought to and have gained navigating thought universities and training programs.&nbsp;

Preparing the Next Generation of Mental Health Professionals Panel (Moderator: Mai H. Vang)

Sheng Lee Yang, MSW, LCSW 
Sheng will discuss how ethnic and linguistic diversity in our community makes using culturally responsive outcome surveys critical to mental health care services. This workshop will explore current patterns of outcome surveys and identify strategies to maximize cultural health capital. &nbsp;Cultural health capital mediates the challenges of disparities and places inclusion at the center of survey outcomes. Participants will acquire skills to developing evaluations and/or surveys that help improve clinical interactions between clinician and the families and communities they serve. The workshop will address these issues through a combination of interactive dialogue, focused discussion, applied-practice exercises, and small group work. 
Learning Objectives: Strategize on how to build inclusive outcome surveys through responsive language. Identify innovative methods and processes to engage and solicit inclusive feedback.

Session 4: Developing Culturally Responsive Outcome Surveys (Sheng Lee Yang, MSW, LCSW)

The focus of this workshop is to develop the knowledge and skills needed to build an organizational culture that understands and values diverse perspectives and is inclusive of social and racial identities. This training will allow participants to: reflect on the role of social identities in building organizational cultures and developing tools and skills to build a culture of shared responsibility for diversity and inclusion. This training model combines theories of social and racial identities and organizational change as tools to develop a cultural health capital lens (CHC) where mental health professionals understand the social inequities present in community-clinician interactions (Shim, 2010).

Session 6: Building an Organizational Culture for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Caitlin Lee, CML Consulting & Mai H. Vang, UMass Boston, MHV Consulting LLC)

Rebecca will share a model she has developed in working with her Native community during Covid-19. She will discuss how she has been able to provide culturally responsive service delivery by recognizing the cultural practices within her community. She will include examples of ways to cultivate trusting relationships with the community and the use of authentic and culturally sensitive language.

Session 5: Serving Native Communities During COVID-19 Through a Community Health Capital Lens  (Rebecca St. Germaine, MPH, ENPH, PhD)

Mai will provide information on conference evaluations and processes for requesting CEUs.
