Duane Wilson - Arctic Co-ops - Vice President of Merchandising &amp; Logistics
In this role, Duane became involved in many of the Co-ops System&rsquo;s efforts in the areas of environment, health and nutrition. From a procurement perspective, the System supplies Co-operatives and non-member clients with over $200 million annually in products and services of all types, including perishable and shelf stable foods, power equipment, building supplies and fuel trucks, but to name a few. &nbsp;

This panel brings together a diverse group of Indigenous women from different communities and industries to discuss their experiences, challenges, and successes in starting and running their own businesses and those in the ecosystem who are championing their success.&nbsp; &nbsp; The panelists will share their unique perspectives on how Indigenous women entrepreneurs are navigating barriers and leveraging their knowledge, culture, and traditions to create innovative and sustainable business models. They will also discuss the programs and services available to support Indigenous women's entrepreneurship, such as mentorship programs, networking opportunities, access to funding and resources, and capacity-building initiatives.&nbsp; &nbsp; Join this panel to gather insights and advice on how to support and amplify the voices of Indigenous women entrepreneurs and the importance of inclusivity, diversity, and equity in the business world.&nbsp;

Indigenous Women's Entrepreneurship -  Redefining Success: Amplifying the Voices and Ventures of Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs

The Runway to Indigenous Economic Equality
By almost all measures, Indigenous people in Canada lag well behind other Canadians in per capita income, educational achievement, and standard of living. The poor and stark statistical outcomes, however, hide the remarkable economic and commercial achievements of the past 40 years. &nbsp;Indigenous people and communities have overcome the constraints of the welfare state and government paternalism. &nbsp;Capitalizing on Indigenous constitutional rights, Supreme Court rulings, and new relationships with resource and infrastructures companies, Indigenous peoples have unleashed long-constrained commercial abilities. &nbsp;They have, in the process, charted a path toward equality of Indigenous opportunity, remaking the Canadian economy in the process. &nbsp;This presentation describes the trajectory of Indigenous achievement, identifies contemporary accomplishments and describes the remaining barriers to Indigenous economic equality.&nbsp;

Ken Coates is Canada Research Chair in Regional Innovation at the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Saskatchewan. &nbsp;His research has focused largely on the history and economic development of the Canadian North and the Circumpolar World. &nbsp;He has worked at universities across Canada and in New Zealand and has served as a consultant to numerous governments and Indigenous organizations. &nbsp;Ken is a distinguished fellow with the Macdonald Laurier Institute, with responsibilities for Indigenous and northern issues.

Alicia Asp-Chief is an Indigenous Classical and Pop/R&amp;B vocalist who has been performing various styles of music throughout her life at numerous venues ranging from the Grey Cup Conference, International Women&rsquo;s Day Celebrations, and The Canada day 150th at parliament hill singing a trilingual national anthem. She has most recently won a grant to release her first album alongside Crystal Shawanda&rsquo;s label New Sun Music. As a young Indigenous musician, she thrives at the opportunity to contribute to the world by giving our Anishinabe women a voice in mainstream music.
