Returning Veterans Project (RVP) supports the healing and health of our veteran and military communities by connecting Veterans, Service Members, and their military families with free, confidential mental and physical health services.&nbsp;
RVP Clients use our online directory to access individualized care from a network of highly qualified volunteer health providers, without any fees or strings attached. Since our founding in 2005, we&rsquo;ve sought to remove the barriers to mental and physical health services so that those we serve may have free, confidential access to the care they need.
Our Mission: To provide free, confidential mental and physical health services for veterans, service members, and their military families in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Our Vision: An improved quality of life for veterans, service members, and their military families.
Our Values: We believe it is our collective responsibility to offer support, healing, and access to mental and physical health services for our veterans and military communities. We believe veterans, service members, and their families have the right to:

<li>Confidential services from their provider of choice</li>
<li>Easy and timely access to the health services they need</li>

Initiative 1: Returning Veterans Project

We know from decades of research that family and caregiver involvement in a loved one&rsquo;s treatment improves recovery, reduces relapse, and decreases mental health crises. Family members and caregivers are also a critical component of the behavioral health workforce. A Family and Caregiver Academy would offer training and skills to families and caregivers to support recovery, resilience, and long-term health. The Academy would initially serve the community at the new <a href="https://facilities.uw.edu/projects/behavioral-health-teaching-facility">Center for Behavioral Health and Learning</a> located on the UW Medical Center - Northwest campus. Our long-term vision is that it would become a collaborative learning environment for patients, families, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary care team &ndash; a behavioral health resource, education and information hub providing in-person and virtual evidence-based psychoeducation and skill building courses for the paid and unpaid healthcare workforce in Washington. We hope this presentation will allow us to gather additional input from the Mental Health Summit attendees and identify potential partners in this important work.

Initiative 2: Building a Family and Caregiver Academy

Currently there is a work shortage of Mental Health Professional across the state and nation. &nbsp;Within that storage the applicant pool becomes much smaller when public safety agencies are seeking to employ Mental Health Professionals in a embedded or Co-Response capacity. &nbsp;This initiative seeks to educate stakeholders and the community on Co-Response, continue to legitimize this role and industry for current and future Mental Health Professionals, and provide the proper training and education both before, during, and after graduation.&nbsp;

Initiative 3: Preparing Co-Responding MHPs to work with Law Enforcement in Crisis Response

We believe that access to quality mental health care is a human right and can change a person&rsquo;s life. Our goal is to help uninsured and underinsured individuals in our service area who are referred by primary care providers, gain access to the right mental health professional and emerging health professional, to meet their needs.
To support as many individuals as possible, we partner with licensed professionals, student interns and those needing additional hours of supervision before licensure, who volunteer their services on a pro bono basis, ensuring equal access to quality mental health care.

Initiative 4: Pro Bono Counseling

Washington&rsquo;s &ldquo;Workforce for Student Well-Being&rdquo; (WSW) Initiative uses conditional scholarships and training and professional development to increase the number, skills, and diversity of school behavioral health practitioners. This presentation will describe the goals, funding strategies, collaboration, details on conditional scholarships to trainees, professional development activities, and use of data, with a goal of inspiring and informing other school behavioral health workforce efforts across the U.S.&nbsp;

Initiative 5: Workforce for Student Well-Being

The Dementia Palliative Education Network aims to revolutionize healthcare delivery through training nurses to work at the top of their scope of practice in providing comprehensive dementia care in all healthcare settings. By expanding the dementia sub-specialty healthcare workforce, mental health care outcomes, quality of life and community functioning would improve for people living with dementia, their care partners and communities.&nbsp;

Initiative 3 presentation: Preparing Co-Responding MHPs to work with Law Enforcement in Crisis Response, King County Sheriff s Office

Project Access Northwest, improves community health by connecting the most vulnerable members of our community to vital health care services. In large part, they accomplish this by partnering with almost 1,800 volunteer providers to offer care in more than 50 medical specialties, completely free of charge to their clients who live at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level. Their pro bono counseling initiative seeks licensed and pre-licensed health professionals willing to donate their time to see clients referred by primary care providers who see patients in community health clinic settings. Care Coordinators at Project Access Northwest match clients in need to providers willing to care for them, complete required screenings, and schedule appointments. Volunteer therapists pledge to see clients to address such issues as stress, anxiety, sadness, grief, life transitions, and relationship issues. Therapists choose how many people they would like to see and the dates and times they prefer. Therapists can determine how long they wish to see the client. In 2022, Project Access Northwest achieved a client no-show rate of less than 4% for over 3,200 appointments made.&nbsp;
