Helpline: The Food Bank Council of Michigan operates a statewide food assistance Helpline that allows us to assist Michigan residents with applying for the Food Assistance Program (also known as SNAP) over-the-phone, as well as connect them to local food resources. The prevalence of human trafficking has reached alarming levels in the United States. To address this widespread crisis, individuals licensed or registered by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA); e.g., nurses, social workers, and professional counselors all have a new continuing educational requirement which must be met when seeking initial or renewal of an individual&rsquo;s licensure or registration. This presentation will cover the required training but more importantly address how each of us has a role in detecting and identifying suspected victims of human trafficking. The presentation will use a case-based approach to help us all use appropriate language, a trauma sensitive approach, and work better together as partners to prevent further victimization.

Awareness of the prevalence of trauma and stress in our lives and understanding how our brain and body react or respond to changing circumstances is information people of all ages should understand. This knowledge compels us to increase our preventative practices to support protective factors. &nbsp;Research has identified what protective factors are most effective in building trauma integration and resilience. &nbsp;This session will explore a basic understanding of these factors which include creating trusting relationships in safe environments while building regulation and competency skills. It will focus specifically on the importance of strengthening self-awareness and reflection, as well as, building regulation skills into our daily routines.&nbsp;
Obj 1: Describe the impact trauma and stress have on our brain, behavior and health.
Obj 2: Describe a research-based framework (ARC- Attachment, Regulation and Competency) to decrease stress and mitigate the negative impact of trauma.
