The Perinatal Infectious Disease Clinic (PIDC) provides prenatal care for persons living with HIV and other perinatal exposures in the Metro Detroit Area (hepatitis B, C, tuberculosis and syphilis).
Founding director Theodore B. Jones, M.D., FACOG brings more than 30 years of experience in HIV pregnancy care.&nbsp; Infectious disease support available on site with Dr. Cecilia Big meeting with patients as needed during prenatal visits.&nbsp; HIV Specialty Pharmacist Dr. Rima Bazzi is available for any questions regarding medications and interactions.&nbsp; Dr. Bazzi also provides pediatic medication administration teaching and support post birth.&nbsp; Pediatric Infectious Disease physician Dr. Arsala Bakhtyar evaluates infants inpatient at birth and is available for continued perinatal HIV exposure outpatient followup.&nbsp; PIDC is staffed by a full time on-site social worker Bettina Graham who is available to assist patients in overcoming obstacles to care and Katherine (Katie) Repp NP-C.
Additional services available in PIDC include pre-pregnancy consultation, reproductive counseling for mixed status couples, counseling regarding the use of PrEP and access to free banked breast milk through the MDHHS program.

In 2015, Wellness Networks, Inc. and the HIV/AIDS resource Center (HARC) brought together more than 60 years of experience and expertise together in a merger that created UNIFIED - HIV Health and Beyond. Today, we are leading the way in creating a regional model for HIV and related care in Southeast Michigan. We do this by providing education and services to help prevent the spread of HIV and by connecting people living with HIV to needed care and resources.
In 2019, UNIFIED introduced the "Stigma Fighters". This is a community-based, outreach program funded by a federal Ending the HIV-epidemic grant, which seeks to develop new and innovative efforts to end HIV-related stigma that exists in the Southeast Michigan area.

Conference SWAG

This session will examine various aspects of health policy through the lens of HIV services and the National HIV AIDS Strategy. A focus on intersectional issues that impact health equity in the United States will be discussed. The legacy of social justice in the nursing profession and the various ways that nurses can participate in advocacy for equitable and just health policy and services will be outlined. &nbsp;

302: What You Need to Know: Variants, At-Risk Populations, and The Future of COVID 19 and HIV Vaccines

This presentation will provide participants with insight into the current state of opioids and pain management. This includes national/local data related to opioids and overdoses, highlighting an educational outreach program known as academic detailing to provide prescribers with up to date information and tools to improve outcomes in their patients, and measures being used to address the increasing rate of overdoses with the goal of improving opioid safety.

Plenary: Screening Guidelines and STI Update: What You as an HIV Provider Should Know

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected our personal and professional lives in many ways that we may not recognize. In the context of a disaster cascade, finding the mental, emotional, and other resources necessary to feel resilient is more challenging than ever before, particularly for Healthcare Workers. &nbsp; Working through emotional, cognitive, and interpersonal difficulties is more important than ever in order to reduce a sense of burnout and address the experience of Moral Injury that has been felt by so many. &nbsp;Participants in this presentation will learn about: a) behavioral health considerations for the current phase of the disaster and response, b) the physical and neurochemical processes at work that influence our thinking, c) emotional processing and decision making in a disaster cascade, and d)strategies for navigating complicated issues around grief, bereavement, and loss, burnout, and moral injury.
